Walking in the winter sunshine

There is something special about walking on a cold bright day in January.
Wednesday 14 January 2015 - The sky was clear and blue and the sun shining. Too good to miss! My husband and I decided to pull on our walking boots and warm clothing and ‘take to the hills.’
It sounds as if we had a long trek ahead of us but nothing could be further from the truth. We made our way to Chalton and walked through the churchyard of St Michael’s Church and onto the footpath. Then it was steady but warming walk up to the top of the hill – and what a view awaited us!
We stood beside the ancient tumuli and scanned the 360 degree crystal clear view. In one direction we could see Uppark House and the Downs. We turned in the other direction to see the sun was glinting off the water in Chichester Harbour. Even though we have walked this path many times the beauty of the countryside continues to surprise and delight us.
After another hour of enjoying this walk we found ourselves back at St Michael’s Church and we just had to pop in for a moment and savour the quiet of the ancient building that has celebrated and comforted many generations of Hampshire people over the centuries.
We walked back to The Red Lion - reputedly the oldest pub in Hampshire. A refreshing end to a glorious walk.
