You can expect a friendly welcome at both our local churches this weekend. Will the weather be cloudy and dull? Not here in Clanfield - the forecast at Drift Road Evangelical Church and St James Church will be sunny smiles and a warm welcome.

Drift Road Evangelical Church is holding an Open Day on Saturday 22 August from 2pm - 4.30pm. http://www.clanfieldonline.com/14/660/church-open-day

The congregation are preparing to welcome residents old and new to the church. Come along and find out about their community, beliefs and church groups. They will be signing up children aged 4 – 11 years for the Explorers’ Group which starts in September; so parents this is your chance to come along and have a chat with the group leaders. But you don’t need the excuse of children to visit the church – it is an Open Day for all – so come along and find out more.

There will be lots to do during the afternoon with games and activities planned plus free refreshments. I can personally vouch for their cakes – simply scrumptious!

On Sunday afternoon 23 August, St James will be continuing their programme of Sunday Afternoon Teas from 3 – 5pm. http://www.clanfieldonline.com/14/608/sunday-afternoon-teas-at-st-james

You only have two Sundays left this summer to enjoy the afternoon teas in the church hall beside St James Church. In warm weather the doors are open and visitors spill out onto the grass; such a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Why not combine it with a walk around the village first to build up an appetite for the delicious cakes? Yes, I have tested these cakes as well!

The congregation of the St James Church are now in their seventh year of offering these tea parties and it is such a friendly and relaxed opportunity to meet local people and find out more about the church and how important it is in our community.

Aren’t we lucky to have such caring and thoughtful people who want to extend the hand of friendship to the community? Pop in, say hello and you will be glad that you did.
