Lights out on Monday 4th August

On Monday 4 August, everyone in the UK is invited to turn their lights out from 10pm - 11pm leaving on a single light or candle to mark the moment the UK entered the First World War, one hundred years agohttp://www.1418now.org.uk/lights-out/

Across the country from the Shetland Isles to Cornwall and from Jersey to Northern Ireland public buildings and private homes will dim their lights in respect for this anniversary. http://www.1418now.org.uk/lights-out/search/

In Hampshire, over 100,000 street lights will be dimmed by the County Council between 10pm and 11pm as part of this commemoration.

The Royal British Legion is hoping to light 1 million candles across the UK.  Visit their website to see how you can support their work with our Armed Forces. http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/remembrance/ww1-centenary/lights-out

Show your support by turning off your lights on Monday night - but leave a single light in a window facing the street between 10 – 11pm.
