Butser Ancient Farm is gearing up for the start of their Roman Summer!
The event kicks off on Friday 28 July with their Try It! Day, as part of the Festival of Archaeology taking place across the country. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including archaeology, felting, costumes, face painting, wattling, wildlife, cooking, head dresses, bushcraft, thatching and more.
Take part in Toga Tuesdays throughout August to learn all about Roman life. This includes Roman cookery, dressing up, weaponry, domestic chores, technology and engineering. Children will have the opportunity to take part in a production of Julius Caesar on Tuesday 15 August with local theatre group Faye’s Fables.
The Roman Summer will finish with a Glorious Games & Gladiators day on Monday 28 August, where you can watch a real Roman gladiator fight! Butser has also recently opened their children’s Art & Poetry competition inspired by the theme ‘Roman Life’, which will be judged by bestselling Roman Mysteries author Caroline Lawrence. The deadline for entries is Friday 25 August.
All events are open from 10am-5pm. Standard entrance prices apply and visitors with an annual pass will be able to visit every Roman Summer event free.
