Parking meters - no charge for cards
Visitors paying for parking with their cards will have no surcharge added to their ticket price thanks to recent changes to the council’s meters.
From January 13 2018 a law change will mean the extra charges imposed by credit and debit card companies can no longer be passed on to the customer.
East Hampshire District Council has now adjusted its meters so from December 1 2017 it has absorbed this cost – around 22p per ticket.
Cllr Ingrid Thomas said: “This is great news for people who come to Petersfield and Alton and use our car parks there. Visitors will now not have to pay the extra 22p surcharge imposed by credit and debit card companies, instead EHDC now covers this cost.
“This will make parking in our car parks, and paying by card, easier and cheaper for everyone.”
