What's on at St James Church during Lent and Easter

At St James Church in South Lane, Clanfield we start the preparation for Easter with our Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday 14 February at 7.30pm: this is the start of Lent, a time traditionally known for giving up something we enjoy, usually chocolate.

As 2018 is the centenary of Votes for Women, we are exploring women of the bible at our 6pm Sunday evening services: we thought we would like to listen to the little-known lives of different women we come across in the bible stories.

On Sunday 11 March we celebrate Mothers with music at our Family Praise service.

On Palm Sunday we celebrate Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem; we will hear the dramatised story from Mark’s gospel of how the people welcomed Jesus, then turned on him because of the fear of the ‘powers to be’ of the day.

Maundy Thursday we join with All Saints Church in Catherington to share in the foot washing and the Last Supper.

Good Friday we have the opportunity join many other Christians from the Clanfield and Horndean Churches Together group of Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholics and Anglican churches in the Walk of Witness: this year the walk will be from Holy Trinity, Blendworth to Napier Hall (we suggest you park in the Blendworth Church Centre car park).  Later that day, at St James Church, we will follow the final Hour from 2pm to 3pm; a time of quiet reflection on the death of Jesus.

Saturday evening, we will hold our bi-monthly café’ church meeting, a time of modern worship with the band while we wait to rejoice at the Resurrection.

On Easter Day at the 11am service we will have our mini bonfire from which we light the new Easter Candle and celebrate the Light returning.
