Warrior Camps this summer at Butser Ancient Farm

A clan of young warriors will once again take over Butser Ancient Farm this summer, led by ex-Marine and local teacher Keith Page MBE.

After three successful years of Warrior Camps at Butser, in which children have been able to develop a range of outdoor skills and crafts, this year the programme has expanded to include four different camps.

On 22 - 24 June there will be a Warrior Weekend for all the family, after several requests to include parents in the experience. This will involve two nights’ stay at the farm and a new programme of activities to challenge the whole family!

From 23 - 27 July and 30 July - 3 August, we will be repeating the Warrior Camp for children aged 8 – 14.

From 28 - 30 August young warriors, children aged 10-14, can take part in Warrior Camp II, the next level up in outdoor challenges and ancient skills.

The camps involve a wide range of skills and challenges, including raft building, firelighting, hunting, cooking, shelter building and orienteering.

Keith Page is an ex-Marine and well-known local teacher in the area, having taught at many schools and in extra-curricular clubs; he wants to share his knowledge of bushcraft, survival skills and the outdoors. Keith is also keen to develop the skills of individuals and has invited previous Warrior Camp attendees to help with camps, allowing them to develop new skills in leadership and teamwork.

A warrior ‘graduate’ from 2017 said: “Thank you so much on behalf of my son and I, who had an amazing time taking part in Warrior Camp. He was so happy to get out of bed in the morning and loved every minute of it – from getting wet to making kindling and setting fires – and the food. He’s not a foodie in any shape or form, so a big thank you for that too!”
