The Salon closing down in November

The Salon, a much-loved local hair and beauty business in Green Lane Clanfield, has announced it is closing on Saturday 10 November this year.  After 32 years serving the community, Sophie Brenton, manager of this family owned business will be hanging up her scissors for the last time.

Sophie, who with her mother Pat Thompson, founded the business in 1986 has enjoyed every minute of her career with this successful business, but now feels it is time retire.  “You can imagine my mixed feelings about leaving The Salon” she said. “My clients have been like having an extended family; we have shared happy and sad times together and over the years they have always shown their support for The Salon.”

The Salon’s stylist team are sad to be leaving the business and Sophie is assisting them in every way to find new employment.  Clients will be informed about appointment bookings for the next two months.

We hear from The Salon that the property will be not offered for rent or for any other business use for at least a year.

Pat Thompson, the owner of The Salon and former local teacher has written her own farewell to clients and the village:

Letter to clients, past and present, of The Salon in Clanfield

It is with very mixed feelings that Sophie and I have decided to close The Salon later this year.  This decision has not been taken lightly but, as a consequence of ill-health and the increasing bureaucratic demands made by the Government on employers and small businesses.

Having lived in the village since 1972, when I started teaching at the then Clanfield Primary School, it has been a delightful experience to have been of yet further service through The Salon to the community for over 32 years.

Some of you became our customers from the early days of 1986 and many more have joined since, becoming friends as well as clients. We have shared both sad and joyful events. As The Salon has always been, since we built it, very much a family concern, with consequent emotional attachments, we anticipate converting the premises for residential use.

We will be supporting our staff for the future as much as possible. Some of them have been with us for decades; more recent staff have integrated so well as members of a happy and professional team. Please feel able to pass on your contact details to your stylist if you so wish.

Thank you for your support over the years. We will miss being such an integral part of Clanfield’s life and, even more, seeing you on a regular basis.

We have been truly grateful for the many kindnesses and loyalty that you have shown over the years.

Pat Thompson: The Salon, Green Lane, Clanfield.
