Blooming time for Clanfield Gardeners

Clanfield Gardening Club members are having a busy summer season.

Recently, club members were to be seen planting up the large flowerbed outside the Co-op store in Drift Road.  Working with Clanfield Online, who provided the plants and compost, our local gardeners were determined to brighten up this central part of the village despite the difficult soil conditions. Margaret Austin, Gardening Club Chairperson, mapped out the display carefully planting for the best effect, “Gardening jobs, large or small, are much easier if you plan ahead” she commented.  Local volunteers and business owners are continuing to water the flowerbeds as well as the wooden planters in Drift Road during this unseasonably dry spell.

Clanfield Gardening Club have some colourful events planned this summer – so mark the following dates in your calendar now.

On Tuesday 10 July from 7.30pm at Petersgate School in Green Lane, CGC will welcome Brian Kidd as their speaker for the very last time at their meetings. Brian is renowned for his horticultural knowledge and experience and is a popular expert guest on tv, radio and local newspapers. He will be talking about the Staunton Estate, a regency ornamental farm and parkland, bringing insights to this popular local attraction that so many of us enjoy visiting.

The high point of the year is the Clanfield Village Horticultural Show, which takes place on Sunday 19 August from 2pm at the Memorial Hall; it is hoped that villagers will enter their homegrown vegetables, flowers and fruit: or bake a cake, take a photo or design a floral artwork.  All welcome on the day to come along and be part of our village show.
