Home safe and sound

It has been a tiring few days for Alex Del Medico and her family who moved into Horndean last week.

Surrounded by a sea of boxes and facing a mountain of unpacking the family suddenly realised that their beloved dog, William, was missing. The gentle 9 year old Labrador had found a gap in the fence, became disorientated with his new surroundings, before wandering off on his own.

Alex said that the whole family joined in the search despite the worsening weather last Friday.  “The boys are 12, 10 and 5 and we were all very worried as William had been missing for several hours.  Although it was pouring with rain we kept looking and calling for him and we only stopped when the weather worsened with thunder and lightning!”

Returning to their new home Alex put out a call for help on Facebook which was picked up by Clanfield Online.  We shared the message immediately and Alex was contacted to tell her that a neighbour in the next road had found William and taken him to St Peter’s Vets in Horndean for safekeeping.

The family, who had moved up from the coast as they missed the hills and woods of the South Downs, were quickly reunited with a very tired and contrite dog.  They are keeping a close eye on William for the present but have stopped all the gaps in the fence just in case!

Clanfield Online are delighted to have played a part in assisting a local family, new to the village, who needed the help of their community.
