Clanfield Christmas Concert starts on the right note

Christmas in Clanfield started on a musical note on Friday night, as crowds of villagers gathered at the Sports and Community Centre to celebrate the season with festive music and traditional carols.  Volunteers were busy handing out mince pies, mulled wine and light-sticks as the Salvation Army Band started to play traditional tunes and some modern favourites. Choirs from Clanfield Junior School, Petersgate Infants and St James Church joined together with villagers to raise their voices in song.

A raffle, with a stunning array of prizes donated by local businesses and craftspeople, raised over £400 for The Rowans Hospice whilst Lauren Bergin’s divine solo performance of ‘Let it go’ was an inspiring choice on a chilly, if not Frozen, evening.  Santa’s arrival raised the level of excitement to fever pitch amongst children eager to whisper their Christmas wishes as their parents and grandparents enjoyed delicious festive treats in the centre café.

Behind the scenes there was a lot of hard work to make the Clanfield Christmas Concert, at a new location, a success. Rhian Beazley, working with the Trustees and staff at the Clanfield Sports and Community Centre, deserves our praise for the immense amount of effort that went into making this a very happy occasion. Bigger and better next year?
