Midsummer Celtic Harp Concert

On Saturday 22nd June be transported back in time with an evening of Celtic Harp music in the great roundhouse at Butser Ancient Farm. Back by popular demand, renowned international harpist Harriet Earis will be returning to the farm for a second year, performing a repertoire of Celtic jigs, reels and airs, as well as some early medieval Welsh harp music and ancient poetry. Harriet has performed solo in the Royal Albert Hall and the 02 Arena in London and gives recitals all across Europe and America. This concert is a unique chance to hear Harriet’s virtuosic brand of harp music in the atmospheric setting of an Iron Age roundhouse, nestled within the beautiful landscape of the South Downs.

The concert begins at 7.30pm with doors to the Farm opening from 7.15pm. There will be refreshments available to purchase during the interval and a chance to see Butser Ancient Farm outside of normal opening hours on a beautiful midsummer evening. Tickets are just £15 and booking in advance is recommended.

Harriet will also be giving a workshop during the Saturday morning on the language of the Britons. The morning workshop will delve into the earliest recorded language of the Britons – Brittonic or Old Welsh – whilst sitting around the fire in the reconstructed 8th century Anglo-Saxon hall at Butser Ancient Farm. The workshop will also look at the influence of the early Celts on English and show the ways in which many common English words and local place names have evolved from Celtic roots.

For more details of both the harp concert and language workshop visit the Butser website on or call 02392 598838.
