GET ready to experience a brutal battle of ferocious warriors this September at Butser Ancient Farm.

Hampshire based Anglo Saxon reenactment group, Herigeas Hundas, will be defending their Saxon long hall against the marauding Vikings of Wuffa Reenactment Society, who are marching on the farm from East Anglia for the weekend.

Visitors will be able to enjoy action packed fighting demonstrations along with ancient crafts and every day camp life as grudges between age old enemies are settled, with each day culminating in a huge battle for the long hall to see who is the final champion of history.

Herigeas Hundas Group Leader, Rich Bonner said: ‘We are very excited to be at Butser Ancient Farm for this brand new event.

‘It promises to be a completely immersive experience with visitors able to march alongside the warriors as they prepare for battle and get up close and personal with the sights and smells of Anglo Saxon and Viking Britain.’

‘Our warriors are ready to show off their fighting skills to visitors and Herigeas Hundas are ready to defend the Saxon hall against the invading Vikings!’

There will be battle combat demonstrations from both of the groups throughout the weekend that will see warriors pitted against each other in one on one combat. There will also be the unique chance to see a fearsome shieldwall and feel what it was like to face down an invading war band!

Each day will finish in an epic battle for the Saxon long hall, but can Herigeas Hundas defend their Hampshire home from the bloodthirsty Vikings of Wuffa? Only the charge of the shieldwall will tell!

Butser Ancient Farm’s Creative Developer, Rachel Bingham said: ‘We’re delighted to not only have the wonderful Saxons from Herigeas Hundas but also Vikings from Wuffa Re-enactment Society joining us for this brand new event.

‘It is sure to be an unforgettable weekend as they battle it out over our beautiful Saxon Hall!’
