James’ ride for Petersgate School

Our amazing James heard that his school was in desperate need of a new minibus; after a few ideas James set himself a challenge to cycle 50 miles in one day.

James is a keen cyclist who regularly achieves 20 miles with us as a family. ‘’Why don’t I just keep riding mummy?!’’ And from there on we witnessed our seven year old’s passion and determination in wanting to help.

I have been a member of Petersgate PTA or (Pops: Pals of Petersgate School) since 2016 and have been actively fundraising for new play equipment, hall blinds and resources. I am part of a fantastic team who are inspiring and motivated to achieve the best we can.

Our aim now is to replace a worn out minibus that has not made it through the MOT and was unfortunately vandalised this year. We hope to replace it with a new, safe minibus so children can experience the great South Downs and parents can watch their children learn from their experiences. Our summer festival raised £5,042.00 – a fabulous day of traditional games, unicorn rides and reptile experiences. James has raised £1,900 and counting - we are immensely proud of our son who has become a great role model to his younger sister and peers.

James completed his ride on Sunday 14th July in 4hrs 52 minutes averaging 10.62 mph, his personal aim was not to drop below 10mph.

We took James for an ‘all you can eat’ dinner afterwards in which he continued to plan another challenge.
