Councillors’ grants brings Christmas to Clanfield
Clanfield has been decked out in seasonal decorations this Christmas thanks in part to grants from a couple of East Hampshire District Councillors.
Clanfield Online, a group of businesses and organisations, has placed ten Christmas trees around the Clanfield, put up festive Christmas lights and installed some permanent planters to give the village a lift.
The decorations have been paid for in part by two £350 grants from local councillors Cllr Ken Moon and Cllr Arthur Agate.
Nigel Hadwen, Chairman of Clanfield Online, said: “We have tried to give the village a real lift at Christmas time. We’ve placed the trees and decorations all round Clanfield, not just outside the shopping parade, because our objective is to support the whole village and create a real community spirit here.
“And this work will not just be seen at Christmas, the planters will also be sewn with seeds for summer and winter displays.”
Cllr Ken Moon, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Rural Affairs, said: “Clanfield Online is a great example of how businesses can sustain their local economy and the whole community by supporting their shopkeepers and retailers.
“Cllr Agate and I are thrilled to be able to put some of our councillor grant money towards this worthy project which has made a big difference to the village this Christmas.”
EHDC gives all its councillors an annual budget of £4,500 to can spend on projects or initiatives within their local area.
