Public Art Project for Clanfield

Do you live or work in Clanfield?  Are you interested in art?  Would you like to help to create something really special and distinctive for your village - something which you and the whole community can be proud of and which future generations may wish to continue?

If so, you are warmly invited to a public meeting at the Memorial Hall in South Lane, Clanfield on Friday, 24th January (6.30 for 7.00 pm) for the launch of Clanfield’s Public Art Project.  All will be very welcome.

There will be a presentation by Parish Council Chairman, John Bannell, and artists who are working with the Parish Council and the Community Development Team at East Hampshire District Council on a Feasibility Study for the project.

For what might become a three-phase project extending over a number of years, initial thoughts include the possibility of an open-air art gallery and items of sculpture in a variety of materials and mosaic. The project could also link into other cultural interests and activities such as historical research and creative writing.

Announcing the date of the public meeting, John Bannell said:

“This is a tremendously exciting opportunity for our whole community to get behind creating something which they can take great pride in and which will provide a platform for future generations of residents to continue.

“I hope that as many people as possible of all ages will come to the meeting including our young people who may be studying art at school or college. I think it is really important that their views and aspirations are heard and reflected in what we do.”

It is envisaged that some of the Parish Council’s open spaces could host the new artwork but that does not in any way preclude people coming forward with their own ideas for its form and location.

John Bannell added:

“We would like to hear people’s ideas. We would like them to become actively interested and involved - perhaps joining a steering group to guide the progress of the project from initial concepts to implementation.

“Funding has already been promised for the initial planning and feasibility phase of the project and we have also received very positive feedback from initial soundings that we have taken about funding possibilities thereafter. I think we really can make this happen and it will be wonderful for our village.”
