Cost of vandalism – don’t let them spoil our village
Clanfield Parish Council is counting the cost of vandalism following the destruction of two dozen young trees. Cost of Vandalism Anti-social behaviour impacts on all of us, our village and ultimately, the cost to all of us in this community.
We’ve all seen litter left beside footpaths and hedgerows becoming the final resting place for cans and plastic. Dodging dog poo on a walk is perhaps less common but seeing full poo bags, left for someone else to clear up, is not. These young trees, destroyed by vandals, is just another of example of a very small section of the community spoiling it for the rest of us.
I received an email several weeks ago from a young mum who cleared up after someone else’s BBQ at Peel Park. Read her account:
Here is a photo of what I found at the skate park this morning. It really was in a disgusting state. I spent a good half hour putting other people's rubbish in the bin, which was overflowing. People had clearly been drinking and had a BBQ but there was also litter scattered all around the park, it's very sad ☹️
So, what’s to be done? You’ll never going to eradicate anti-social behaviour completely: some individuals will continue to act irresponsibly and parents, who set a poor example to their children, ensure their behaviour continues into the next generation.
However, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make things better:
- Know where your children are and what they are doing
- If you see a problem, sort it or report it: CPC
- Litter attracts litter – pick it up! June Litter-pick
- Support events at our nurseries, schools, sports and youth organisations as they educate children to find a better way: Events
- Discuss your concerns with the Police Neighbourhood Team: https://www.facebook.com/1682258828681166/photos/a.2213403035566740/2335053796734996/?type=3&theater
We live in a friendly area with good schools, strong community groups and local facilities. Let’s work together to make our village a great place to live.
