Cauliflower shortage – don’t panic!

I popped into Nigel’s Hadwen Greengrocer & Florist shop in Drift Road to get the lowdown on the cauliflower situation.  When the BBC features a vegetable as a top story then you know its got to be serious. Heavy UK June rainfall combined with a heatwave in Europe have resulted in a severe shortage of this popular vegetable.

Nigel was very busy preparing for the weekend, but we managed a brief chat over a stack of fresh produce. His message was reassuring:

“Cauliflowers are scarce and expensive at the moment, but fresh supplies will start to come through in the next few weeks; but in the meantime, why not try alternative veg?  We stock local french and runner beans, broccoli, sweetheart cabbage, curly kale, courgettes, marrow and sweet corn – all from within a 20 miles radius of Clanfield, so they are really fresh. Oh, and we have local sunflowers grown by the lady who supplied our curly kale – a bit of sunshine to brighten up anyone’s day!”

So, buying fresh veg, fruit and flowers is easy and good news for your wallet.  While you’re in the shop pick up a Clanfield Shopping Bag – all proceeds will be used for local projects!
