Clanfield Neighbourhood Watch - Attempted theft of signpost in Clanfield

Email: Clanfield Neighbourhood Watch

There have been reports of attempted crimes near Hinton Manor Lane/ Hambledon Road area.

Two men driving a black Fiat Punto using stolen number plates.

  1. Two men tried to break into a workman’s van in Hinton Manor Lane but were chased off by the workman.
  2. Later, saw them trying to get the signpost that has fallen down at the Hinton Manor Lane/ Hambledon Road junction into their car but could not get out of the ground.

Attempted thefts have been reported to Hampshire Police.  The broken signpost, originally flagged in January, has been reported again to Hampshire Highways, with this latest incident highlighted.  Clanfield Online helped to fund the repainting of our traditional village signposts in 2016. We hope that this work to reset the signpost will be completed quickly – we don’t want to lose our heritage signs.

Editor’s note: the broken signpost, originally flagged in January, has been reported again to Hampshire Highways, with this latest incident highlighted. Hampshire Highways handed over the job to contractors for repair on 24th January.  There is no obvious damage to the post  - a vehicle would have left some marks? So, we assume it has been pushed/pulled over by vandals.
