Clanfield Cricket Club team effort awarded accolade

Clanfield Cricket Club concluded the indoor season last Sunday with a tight, 12 run defeat, to league winners Hambledon B.

Captain Mike Collins won the toss and elected to field first; Clanfield managed to bowl Hambledon B out for 90 in 10 overs. Matt Bradley took 2 wickets with Adam Smith and Phil Weaver taking 1 wicket each, as well as 2 run outs to complete the wickets taken. In reply Matt Bradley top scored with 32, but Clanfield couldn't quite secure victory as they were bowled out for 78 with 3 balls remaining.

Clanfield finished in 2nd place in Division 5 of the Fareham Indoor Cricket League, playing 10 games - winning 7, losing 3. The team surpassed all expectations, working hard to achieve their runners-up place, as well as being the only team to beat the league winners Hambledon B back in December.

Clanfield were also awarded the Senior Sporting and Efficiency (fair play) award for the 2019/20 indoor season, showing that the team not only performed well on the field, but played all their games in the right spirit, which is a key element of Clanfield Cricket Club ethos.

Matt Bradley was named the Clanfield Cricket Club indoor player of the year for the 2019/20 season. Matt scored 254 runs, as well as taking 9 wickets during the season, which subsequently saw him finish 5th in the overall batting averages and 13th in the bowling averages.

This was a real team effort, with everyone contributing at different points throughout the season. Well done to all who played, and we look forward to getting our summer season started, whenever we are able to, in light of current conditions.
