Young wildlife artists – wanted!

East Hampshire District Council is holding an art competition to keep children creative and inspired whilst they stay at home because of coronavirus.

Children are being asked to create a picture of a tree and the wildlife that lives there. This could be wildlife that makes its home inside a tree, in its roots or something that flies around the treetops.

Any art medium can be used, but it must be no bigger than A4 sized.

Winning entries will be displayed at a future event at Gilbert White's House Museum and prizes will be awarded.

Cllr Diana Tennyson, EHDC member for Four Marks & Medstead who is running the competition, said: “We want this competition to get children to think about the importance of trees as habitats.

“Following the news of school closures from Friday 20 March, we decided to continue on with the competition as a project that children can work on at home, or for those who are remaining at school if their parents are core workers.

"As long as you are complying with social distancing measures, you can go for a walk as your one type of exercise per day. You don't have to go far from your home at all to see how important trees are to wildlife."

How to enter:

  • There are three age groups: 4 years and below, 5-7 years and 8-11 years
  • Your tree wildlife creation must be on an A4 size sheet of paper or canvas
