Clanfield Cricket Club Winning start for Clanfield Cricket Club

Cricket returned to South Lane Meadow this past week with the start of Clanfield Cricket Club's midweek season. There were 2 games played this week, the first on Wednesday evening vs Raymarine and the second on Thursday vs an Andrew's Invitation XI.

Wednesday's game saw a Clanfield win by 19 runs. Clanfield were invited to bat first after captain Matt Bradley lost the toss, to which Clanfield scored 110/7 from their 20 overs. The captain led the way with the bat as Matt top scored with 26* and retired as per normal midweek rules. Matt Myers taking 3/14 for the visitors. In reply Raymarine were dismissed for 91 in 16.2 overs, Raj Shah top scored with 37 and, at one stage, Raymarine looked set for a comfortable win, but a fantastic spell from Clanfield debutant Harry Foster won the match for the home team as he took 5/18, his career-best bowling figures.

Thursday's game saw Clanfield come out winners by 2 runs in a close encounter vs an Andrews Family Invitation XI.

Matt Bradley won the toss and Clanfield elected to bat first; Clanfield scored 109/7 from their 20 overs with Adam Smith top scoring on 27* retired; Will Andrews led the way for the opposition with 2 wickets. In reply Will Andrews also led the way with the bat as he scored 26* retired, however Rob Brien took 2/20 from his 4 overs and Roy Goulding defended 15 from the final over to see Clanfield win by 2 runs.

A great way to start the 2020 midweek season and a nice way to mark the return of cricket at South Lane Meadow. Despite the delayed start to the 2020 season, cricket is now in full flow with games coming thick & fast including our next game this Sunday away at Elsted.

We always welcome new players who wish to join, be it seasoned campaigners or those who are less experienced but just wish to play a friendly game of cricket.
