Clanfield caravan destroyed by fire
Fire destroyed a caravan in the top field beside White Dirt Lane in Clanfield on Friday afternoon. Three youths were seen in this area shortly before the fire started, but it is not known if they were involved in the incident.
A local resident, who spotted the flames taking hold, called emergency services who arrived promptly to the scene. A gas cylinder, stored under the caravan, exploded and the fire started to spread into the field, but quick action by the Fire Brigade and the caravan owner prevented further damage.
Members of the public assisted the emergency services by blocking the entrance to White Dirt Lane to deter onlookers.
An observer commented “ It took a matter of minutes for the smoke and flames to be put out by the fire brigade, who were amazing! The fire had spread into the brushland, pushed by the wind, any longer and this could have been a much more serious incident.”
