Clanfield Bowls & Sports Club open for new members!

Clanfield Bowls & Sports Club is looking for new members to join our friendly club. It will be your chance to make new friends and to safely rebuild fitness levels as the lockdown eases. Bowls can be played by anyone – young and young at heart enjoy this gentle and sociable sport.

You may have seen players in action on the bowling green recently? The bowling rinks are open for singles and pairs play again, following the latest safety guidelines. You don’t need to know how to play bowls before joining; 80% of members had never played before and now they are enjoying their new skills amongst new friends.

The club which opened in April 2019 is operated by enthusiastic volunteers. Their successful first year offered a full schedule of bowling and social events, so it was a great disappointment when the club closed due to Covid 19. However, the club is already putting the pieces in place for a gradualreturn to normal inclusive activities in the current 2020-2021 season as follows

  • Safe use of the facilities constantly reviewed by the committee.

  • A specialist bowls wheelchair, bowling support arm and ramps have been purchased with a grant from Igas Community Fund.

  • Sport England and EHDC have provided funding assistance through the Covid-19 crisis.

  • Volunteers keep the grounds and rink looking good and a new bowls sculpture celebrates the club being voted the Fullers Village of the Year (Best Facility).

  • The all-weather bowls “carpet” has developed an uneven surface, but this will be replaced in the autumn offering excellent league standard playing facilities in the future.

Michael Trippick, Chairman, commented “All new and previous members who wish to join for 2020-2021 can be sure of a warm and safe welcome as we look forward to getting back to normality as soon as possible.”

To arrange an informal visit contact Michael Trippick on 07500 706717 or email Visit for further details.
