Windmill Hill footpath update
The dispute over access to a footpath at the top of Windmill Hill, overlooking Clanfield and Chalton, appears to have reached a peaceful resolution.
For several months path users reported a number of problems. Official footpath signs had been removed and signage stating ‘no public right of way’ had been erected. In addition, a skip filled with undergrowth, followed by the installation of a metal gate, were further barriers to those enjoying a walk in the countryside. Since early June, the HCC Rights of Way team have been working to resolve this dispute.
The footpath is now clear for walkers to use. Hampshire Countryside staff have replaced the official yellow footpath signs and the unofficial signage has been removed. The skip was removed, and the newly installed gate is no longer a barrier to walkers.
We all hope that this peaceful resolution is maintained. All’s well that ends well – enjoy your walking!
