Catherington footpath stile rebuilt
Clanfield Online is pleased to report that an overgrown and dilapidated stile and set of steps, leading to a public footpath on Catherington Lane, has been cleared and rebuilt this week.
Hampshire Countryside had received complaints about the poor state of this entrance to the footpath on Catherington Lane, beside the Catherington Equestrian Centre. Two local volunteers, who work with the Rights of Way team, offered to get the job done using materials provided by HCC. The undergrowth was cleared, and the steps were levelled with new boards fitted. The stile was rebuilt, with just one sturdy step rather than two uneven treads. In addition, a useful wooden stake handhold was added to ensure walkers’ safety when climbing over the stile.
The volunteers received thanks from local residents who were passing by. “This will make our regular walk much easier; the stile was so rickety that I was frightened to use it” a local walker commented.
A good job completed and a help to those who want to get out of the house and enjoy Hampshire Rights of Way. If you find a problem with a footpath or a byway then please report it: https://www.hants.gov.uk/landplanningandenvironment/rightsofway/reportaproblem
