Citizens Advice East Hants had planned to reopen offices from 4th January for advice appointments - but we have had to put this on hold again after our Covid risk analysis of the current situation. All our advisers are working remotely again (as they did in the first and second lockdown) and providing advice to local residents by local freephone, email and webchat. We do have admin staff popping into our offices to ensure documents are scanned and sent to relevant staff and volunteers. Demand for our advice is on the up again.
Various projects are still running including Advice at Home (dealing with advice queries from callers to the Hampshire Help for Vulnerable Phone Line and targeted at older vulnerable adults). We are doing call backs to residents that need more complex advice once their initial query is dealt with. We have a couple of new projects - one is around debt where we have a specialist debt trainee funded by MAPS to deliver advice and also U Benefit, a Hampshire wide scheme to support those with debts, impacted by Covid. Please do refer people with debts to us as we can provide the specialist support people need.
Most importantly, Citizens Advice across Hampshire has £100,000 of funding from Hampshire County Council to provide fuel vouchers and fuel funding to families (and some single people) with fuel debts - whether prepayment or credit meters, should they be struggling to keep their homes warm. Please do ask local residents to contact us if they are in trouble this winter - the funding is part of the Government Winter Fund and will have to be given back if not distributed to those who need it.
That's all for now - Healthy New Year!
