Clanfield Cricket Club – Cricket’s Welcome Return

Clanfield Cricket Club finally got their season underway in April with all of their Saturday, Sunday and Midweek sides starting off their eagerly anticipated seasons.

The Saturday league side, a new addition for the 2021 season, started their preparation for their maiden league season with a pre-season friendly at home to Burridge 4th XI. Captain Matt Bradley made a half century and Andy Wellen took 4 wickets as Clanfield won by 23 runs.

Clanfield have two more pre-season friendlies in May vs Burridge and Ferring before their league campaign starts on Saturday 15 May, away to Denmead.

The Sunday friendly side started the season off with 2 defeats against strong opposition in Shirrell Heath & East Meon. Richard Dadd took 5 wickets vs Shirrell Heath and Matt Bradley took 4 wickets vs East Meon, but neither was enough to prevent defeat. The first half of May sees a first visit to South Lane Meadow for Cypos Cricket Club, before Clanfield hit the road with back-to-back away fixtures at Boxgrove and Madehurst.

The midweek team started their season with victory vs Raymarine, in a last-minute fixture to start the season earlier than planned. Alex Andrews, Rory Munro and Matt Bradley all made scores of 25 and retired as per normal midweek rules; there were wickets for all the bowlers as Clanfield secured victory by 12 runs.

Next month sees Civil Service, Portsmouth Academics and Millcoms all visit South Lane Meadow for the originally scheduled start to the midweek season.
