Evening all, Just wanted to make you aware that we have had seven reports of number plate thefts across Horndean and Clanfield over the last 3 days. Areas of note are South Lane, Catherington Lane, The Yews, Napier Road and Whiteland Way. If you have been a victim of this type of crime, the first thing you should do is to report it to the authorities. As soon as you are aware that the crime has taken place, you should contact the police and the DVLA. By reporting this, you can avoid any unnecessary embarrassment and questioning if your plates are involved in an incident. Thieves often resort to stealing number plates from a car on the street, driveways or in a quiet corner of a car park. With so much enforcement by CCTV or ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) stolen plates can be used to disguise another car to aid crimes like: Changing the identity of a stolen car so it can be sold, Ram-raiding or burglary, Driving from petrol stations without paying, Evading congestion charges, parking and speeding fines. |
