Clanfield Co-op – strong supporter of the community

The news of the Clanfield Co-op targeted by thieves is sad news for our village. Our community had shown strong support for local shops and businesses, particularly over the past year, so damage and loss inflicted on any business in the area, affects us all.

The Clanfield Co-op has been a strong supporter of local good causes. Amongst many others groups, their chosen charity partner, for two years in a row, was Petersgate Infant School. Through a number of fundraising schemes, they helped to provide extra funds for the school. In 2018 the store bought 100 Clanfield Online hessian shopping bags to sell to customers, with all proceeds directed to Petersgate. The Co-op also have is a food donation point within the store, which supports the work of the Horndean and Clanfield Foodbank – a vital service in these troubled times.

In 2015 the Southern Co-operative offered a piece of ground to be turned into a community flower bed beside the Drift Road roundabout. This corner, funded by Clanfield Online and maintained by Clanfield Gardening Club, brings a splash of colour to the village. And this month, the ATM cash machine will return to the village, just outside the store, showing their commitment to rural communities.

There will always be people who want to destroy and steal but we must resolve to show support for our local shops and businesses.
