Clanfield Parish Council Community Programme

Clanfield Parish Council has unveiled its exciting plans for the community with projects following three main themes:

  • Environment and Biodiversity
  • Youth and Community
  • Public Art

Some of the Council-approved objectives will start to be implemented this year.

Environment and Biodiversity The first steps for the Environment and Biodiversity theme will be to commission a Village Green Audit to provide a baseline for a number of climate change initiatives, with opportunities for both the Council and residents to contribute, under the umbrella of Greening Clanfield. Whilst this is being organised, two green initiatives will already be underway - wildflower meadow seeding is being planned on Council-owned open space in two “example locations” this Spring and a study is taking place to identify suitable land for tree-planting in the Autumn.
Youth and Community The Youth and Community theme includes setting up a Youth Council for the village and the launch of a Clanfield Award Scheme, which will be open to people of all ages, to recognise outstanding achievement and / or service within the community.
Public Art The Clanfield Public Art project was launched a year ago in January 2020 and the preparation of a funding application was almost complete when the first Covid lockdown was imposed. The project will be picked up again as soon as the current lockdown restrictions are eased.

The Council’s Community Working Group has Councillor and Non-Councillor members and it is chaired by Councillor Laurent Coffre who said

“The Covid crisis has demonstrated how important social links and a sense of community are for us all. We have a very wide-ranging programme which I am sure will be of interest to many people. I look forward to bringing the Group’s ideas to fruition and to sharing our enthusiasm face to face when the health crisis is over. Members of the public can attend our meetings, which we try to keep informal and friendly, and time is allocated to allow them to contribute to the conversation”.

John Bannell, Chairman of the Parish Council added:

“It is really good news that we have got this far in developing the Council’s community based strategy into these areas during the current difficult circumstances.  This is a tribute to the work of our Community Working Group in recent months and the momentum will gather as people see tangible evidence of things happening during the year.”

A Community Working Group page has now been set up on the Council’s website https://www.clanfieldpc.org.uk/ and this will include information on the Group’s objectives and future Working Group meetings.
