Calling All Volunteers - Are You Interested In A New Challenge For 2021?

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) Strategic Management Board is seeking to recruit two volunteer Lay Advisers to ensure that the effectiveness of Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements are monitored and support changes made in order to bring about improvement.

What is a Lay Advisor?

Lay Advisers participate as full members of the area's Strategic Management Board (SMB) and the sub-groups that make up the local governance structure. MAPPA Lay Advisers contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the operation of MAPPA in their area and act as a critical friend in challenging professionals. Frequent attendance at MAPPA meetings ensures the successful candidates have first-hand knowledge of how well arrangements are working to protect the public.

Lay Advisers are voluntary public appointments and are unpaid. Section 326 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 requires ministerial approval of all Lay Adviser appointments and successful applicants will need to pass relevant vetting.

The MAPPA Strategic Management Board is keen to ensure the successful applicants are representative of the communities of Hampshire and Isle of Wight. We encourage candidates from different backgrounds, communities and cultures to apply.

Could this be for you?

The right applicant will have an interest in, and commitment to, protecting the public and preventing victims from serious harm. An ability to communicate and engage with others in a variety of settings is key, and an ideal candidate will be confident, fair minded and have an ability to work alongside professionals from a number of different agencies. The role is supported by regular one to one sessions with the MAPPA Coordinator and expenses are reimbursed.

Interested?
