Clanfield Cricket Club is growing and Kites fly high

Clanfield Cricket Club are 6 weeks into the 2022 season & have already had some action-packed cricket across the club. The new season has seen new players join across the club as well as the formation of new teams to cope with the growing demand for cricket within the village.

Clanfield have started their Hampshire Cricket League season with 4 weeks of games so far. The 1st XI, newly promoted to Division 5 from last season, have won 2 & lost 2 of their games. Tom Wright leads the runs chart with 113 runs, including a half century against Kerala. Captain Matt Bradley leads the wickets column with 7 wickets including 5 wickets against Rowner.

Clanfield’s newly formed 2nd XI have played 3 games, losing their first 2 games against Purbrook 3rds & Fair Oak 4ths but winning their latest game against Emsworth 3rds. Roy Goulding leads the run charts with 81 runs including an innings of 77 against Emsworth. Guy Andrews & captain Andy Wellen lead the wickets column with 4 each – Andrews taking all of his 4 wickets against Emsworth.

Clanfield’s Sunday & Midweek friendly sides have also been in action. Across the 2 sides, 8 games have been played with 5 wins & 3 losses. Matt Bradley leads the runs list, scoring 2 half centuries against Shirrell Heath & Portsmouth whereas James MacGregor leads the wickets column with 11 wickets.

The Clanfield Kites, the newly formed Ladies Softball team, have also started their first ever season with 6 games played & 4 wins to their name. In addition to 4 friendly games, The Kites currently sit 3rd in the W10 South group of the Softball Cricket League with 2 games played (1 won, lost 1) & 3 games to go with the top 3 teams progressing to the quarter finals. Captain Sarah Lydford has led from the front with the bat, making 61 runs from the 6 games & its Lydia Windebank who tops the wickets column with 10 wickets.

Junior cricket has also started at Clanfield with the club’s All-Stars program kickstarting at South Lane Meadow. Over 20 junior cricketers aged 5-7 years have enjoyed 4 weeks of cricketing activities so far. Clanfield’s Dynamos program for 8–11-year-olds starts in June, but until then Clanfield have also started an U11 softball team who will play fixtures against other local teams – starting on Tuesday 7th June at home to Hambledon.

Lots of cricket in the first 6 weeks of the season with plenty more to come over the next 4 months!
