Free Training to Support the Unemployed in Hampshire

With the pandemic changing many areas of our work and everyday lives over the past two years, many members of our community across the County were faced with being on long-term furlough or the need to search for a new line of work due to unemployment. In response to this growing need, Community First launched the drop-in Skills & Employment Hub, open every Thursday from 10am to 12noon at Heart of the Park (previously known as Leigh Park Community Centre); Community First Training also offers as programme of free training courses to support residents across the whole of Hampshire build their confidence and return to employment.

Many of the free training courses are delivered online via Zoom; with anyone aged over 19 and with a Hampshire home postcode eligible to attend courses that have been designed to provide tailored support towards seeking employment. It is hoped that by attending this training, attendees learn valuable skills, tips, and insights, into the best way forward in their job-seeking endeavours.

The list of training available from Community First Training is wide and diverse and includes the following upcoming free courses that are still currently available for registration:

Exploring Self-Employment - Where to start? (Online)  Date: 16/03/2022 

Aimed at those dreaming of being their own boss and running their own business. This course outlines what delegates need to know if they are considering self-employment and where to start; encouraging consideration of business ideas and whether these can be turned into reality.

Overcoming Barriers to Gaining Employment (Online)  Date: 08/03/2022 

An essential workshop for job seekers to learn how to be successful in finding and securing the right job. The course addresses some of the main obstacles faced in the current climate including: overcoming job-search and employment barriers, addressing 'gaps' in employment and formatting applications and CVs around these.

Help Find Employment in the Health and Social Care Industry (Online)’; Date: 10/03/2022                                                   

To help attendees understand what skills and qualities are needed and how they can create the best 'match' for applying for a suitable job in health and social care by identifying and highlighting their own qualities and transferable skills. Supported by Frimley Health, this course is suitable for any role within NHS foundation trusts, from Health Care Assistants, Support Workers, Administration, Porter Positions and Housekeepers! 

Community First hopes to be able to help as many people in the County as possible, regain their confidence and acquire valuable insights and the skills to secure jobs and take a step towards independence; with the charity’s Community Development Director, Mandy Harris, stating “ We deliver a wide portfolio of learning opportunities including free online sessions, longer courses, professional qualifications, and bespoke courses; and we are pleased to be able to offer a programme of fully-funded expert training courses aimed directly at those who require support to get into the workplace. From considering CVs and looking at how to apply for positions, to learning interview techniques and help with finding the right role for themselves, I am hopeful that as many eligible people across County as possible, will register on our free courses and I urge them to take advantage of the high-quality training my team delivers.”
