South Lane Meadow Hedgerow Project

The South Lane Meadow Trustees are starting a project aimed at enhancing the wildlife value of a hedge which forms the boundary to the meadow, on South Lane in Clanfield.

The hedgerow, which lies on the northern side of the meadow, has become completely overgrown with rampant brambles and together with dead or dying trees and bushes forms a poor boundary of little wildlife value. The Hampshire Monday Group, a volunteer group who undertake conservation projects throughout East Hampshire, have begun initial clearance of the brambles, dead trees and bushes on behalf of the Trustees.

The second part of the project will follow in November, when it is hoped to recruit users of the Meadow as volunteers to participate in a tree and shrub planting morning, when the new hedgerow will be laid out with plants provided free by the Woodland Trust. Funding for this environmental enhancement project has been provided by East Hants District Councillor Arthur Agate.

If you would like to participate in the planting of the hedgerow in November, please contact the South Lane Meadow Trust c/o Clanfield Parish Council.
