Catherington Now and Then

Catherington Now and Then returns by popular request

Pictures of the local area - Blendworth, Clanfield, Lovedean, Horndean, Catherington and maybe Hambledon if space permits, going back 100 years is taking place on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August at Catherington Church Hall between 10.00 and 16.00. We will also have a selection of priceless Church records from Catherington, Clanfield and Blendworth going back to the 14th century

We would love to see you there, it is a great opportunity to get to see your area as you remember it. Please bring any old photos of the area or your relatives if they were local, I would love to see them.

We will, of course, be ‘Covid friendly’ so please wear a mask; hand gel will be available, gloves must be worn to view the church records and a one way system will be in operation. There will be tea and coffee offered outside so there will be an opportunity to meet (2 metres apart) and talk.

This year VE Day, on its 75th anniversary, was remembered in a very subdued way. We will have a display of little seen and interesting WW2 memorabilia including specialist equipment used by the Special Operations Executive. There will be a few ex-military vehicles to look over as well.

We look forward to seeing you.

Entry will be £3.00 at the door with monies raised going to the fabric of Catherington Church.

Catherington School. Are you in this photo? Do you know the year?

View across the pond to Rooks Farm. This area was used extensively during the war and was home to members of the Canadian Forces. This part of Clanfield was known a the Canadian Kitchens. Apparently the troops would share their food with the many poorly fed, hungry children of the area.
