Horndean & District U3A

The University of the Third Age (U3A) exists to help people who are no longer in full-time employment pursue their interests in a wide range of academic and leisure activities by sharing their knowledge, skills, interests and experiences. Members learn purely for the pleasure of doing so.

Horndean & District U3A started in 2008 and currently has about 200 members. We hold meetings on the first Friday of every month between 2pm and 4pm at Merchistoun Hall at which guest speakers talk on a variety of subjects. Guests and visitors are very welcome to attend up to two monthly meetings for a donation of £2 per meeting. Details of forthcoming and past talks are shown on our website. The meetings finish with a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits giving members an opportunity to socialise and meet each other.

We also have special interest Groups at which members learn about a range of subjects and participate in a variety of activities:-

Membership of all interest Groups is free although there may be a small charge for attending a Group activity to cover the cost of hiring a room or other facilities or for purchasing equipment required by the Group.

To become a member of the U3A, a membership form containing details of the annual subscription and membership year must be obtained from the Membership Secretary at a monthly meeting or via the website, completed and returned together with the current year’s subscription.
