Christmas trees second year a success
For a second year, festive Christmas trees have lit up the Drift Road area of the village. Clanfield Online funded 6 large trees, one more than last year: we also bought extra lights and enough baubles (200+) to not only decorate our trees but donate some to Clanfield Memorial Hall and the Sports and Community Centre to help them as they joined in the festivities for the first time. We acknowledge the generosity of our EHDC District Councillor Nigel Wren who awarded us a funding grant of £350.00
Clanfield Online volunteers and local shops were receiving compliments from the first day in early December and this trend continued until the last bauble was packed away in a box last week. We want to thank everyone who posted comments and likes or stopped by a local shop and offered their support. Here are just some of the many comments we received:
Well done the village looks great.
Thank you for putting up these Christmas trees. They look lovely.
The trees look stunning, thank you so much for your hard work and bringing such a Christmassy feel to the village.
They look lovely when I drove home from Slimming World Clanfield last night x
The village looks beautiful……Better than Waterlooville!
As local residents and regular shoppers of the Drift Road shops we would like to compliment the business people for the very effective Christmas light decorations. It was a pleasure to go shopping and feel the festive atmosphere.
They are lovely but such a shame that there aren’t any in old Clanfield.
These responses show us that the community want Christmas trees in the village every year. The last comment about the lack of trees in Old Clanfield is also a source of frustration for us: the pavement width makes this a difficult problem to solve, however we will do our utmost to bring a festive look to Old Clanfield in Christmas 2019.
We are pleased to report that the trees have been recycled by a local countryside management business and we will be replanting the wooden containers again this year to bring a splash of colour to the village streets.
If you haven’t bought your Clanfield Shopping Bag yet, then now is the time to do so. All proceeds go towards local projects, so not only are you supporting your village you are doing your bit to ‘ditch the plastic.’
