Village tree planting – colourful reminder of Platinum Jubilee
The Queen’s Jubilee weekend – what an amazing time we had in the village and throughout the country – memories that will last for a long time.
The weekend kicked off, on Friday morning, with a tree planting ceremony on Clanfield Parish land, beside Whitelands Way. Holly Walton from Clanfield Trade Centre/Local36 Charlie's helped to plant 3 trees alongside the Clanfield Working Group – a team of volunteers undertaking environmental projects CWG in the village. Clanfield Online funded the tree planting as a lasting reminder of the Platinum Jubilee.
The trees were chosen for their autumn colour: a Hornbeam and a Tulip tree which have golden, butter yellow leaves and a Liquidambar, which produces leaves of brilliant red, orange, and gold in the autumn – they should make a magnificent sight in the years to come. A fence has been erected and CWG volunteers will be maintaining the trees to ensure they get the best start.
Clanfield Online would like to thank John Bannell of Clanfield Parish Council; Branditright for the Jubilee sign and the Clanfield Working Group volunteers for coming up with this project and all the hard digging!
We would also like to thank our local business community who fund Clanfield Online: we use their money to pay for tree planting, flower beds, celebration bunting, village Christmas trees. We also help local clubs and organisations who need sponsorship. Please buy and shop locally – support your village businesses.
