Budgens – farewell to Andy and Jacqui Shaw

Andy and Jacqui Shaw were bidding farewell to customers and staff this week, as they left Budgens in Green Lane for the final time. They, together with Jacqui’s parents, Anne and Roly, have been serving our village for 34 years and they are now looking forward to spending more time, with family, in Clanfield.

Clanfield has grown since the family took over the store in 1988, yet our village store has remained a much loved local shop, where customers were helped and valued. Andy and Jacqui and the family were always there for us when we needed assistance. Small children, who spent their pocket money in the shop, now bring their own children in to this friendly store. Elderly and vulnerable customers were given the extra help they need to shop with confidence.

Our local shops, including Budgens, stayed open whatever the weather or national crisis – remember when Clanfield was cut off in the snow of 2010 and the food queues during the pandemic lockdowns? We have a lot to say thank you for in this village.

Andy and Jacqui said:  "We can’t believe that such a large important part of our life has changed. We have been very fortunate to have been welcomed into the village and raised our much loved family here. We have made friends through work colleagues and customers and are now looking forward to spending more time with them. We are still living in the village and will see you all at local shops and events.  Thank you to everyone for the kind messages and we will miss you all.

We wish Hinel, Pranay, Nik and their family every success and hope that they enjoy the warmth of our lovely village

Kind regards

Andy and Jacqui"

It is the end of an era and we wish Andy and Jacqui a happy retirement and look forward to seeing them around the village. We now look forward to welcoming the new owners of Budgens – we are a friendly village and look forward to shopping in the store.
