Village trees planted thanks to local businesses

The recent wind and rain has blown many of the leaves from the trees, but before the autumn colour fades completely, Clanfield Online would like to thank the local business community who have funded village tree planting projects over the past few years.

In November 2016 our volunteers planted a small clump of trees in South Lane Meadow, close to the public carpark. The Meadow Trustees wanted autumn colour, so we planted Maples, Lime and Liquidambar. Six years on, the trees are thriving and showing off their vivid gold, orange and red leaves which will delight villagers for years to come.

This year we marked the Platinum celebrations with a special Jubilee planting. Holly Walton of Clanfield Trade Centre helped to plant 3 trees, again chosen for their autumn colour: a Hornbeam and a Tulip tree which have golden, butter yellow leaves and a Liquidambar, which produces leaves of brilliant red, orange, and gold.

Earlier this year the website donated watering equipment to the Clanfield Working Group, a team of local volunteers, who are planting hundreds of native trees around Whitelands Way.  This kit was vital in saving over 100 young trees from dying during this summer’s drought. We have also bought fencing, tools and mulch to protect the trees in their early years.

These trees wouldn’t have been planted, or equipment bought, without funds provided by the Clanfield Online business community Business Community. So next time you are ordering online, arranging a tradesman’s visit or heading out to shop – just remember our local businesses provided the funds to bring a bit of colour to your village.
