Butser Ancient Farm will soon be basking in the glow of the burning wicker man, as the Beltain festival is celebrated once again!

For the Celts, Beltain marked the beginning of summer, when rituals were performed to encourage growth and protect the cattle, crops and people. The famous Roman general Julius Caesar wrote that the Celts filled large wicker containers with people and animals, and burned them as a sacrifice to ensure a good harvest!
Thankfully, Butser’s Beltain event is a little more family-friendly…
There are still a handful of tickets left for those wanting to welcome in the warmer months; with live music from Feckless and a local ale and cider bar to keep spirits high. There will also be pizza, paella, local sausages, crepes and cakes.
We will be offering ancient musical performances, birds of prey, the Weorod Re-enactors, storytelling, Roman gladiators, Hampshire Astronomy, woodwork and metalwork displays and much, much more!
Join the farm for an atmospheric bank holiday celebration on Saturday 2nd May 2015 at 4.30pm.
Tickets can be bought online at www.butserancientfarm.co.uk
