Clanfield Online – Heritage Signposts
Clanfield Online is delighted to announce that the traditional Heritage Signposts, that are located in Clanfield and Chalton, will be repainted in the next few months. There are seven traditional metal posts in the parish, with their distinctive black and white stripes and roundel tops. Most of them are in a sorry state of repair with extensive rust and flaking paint that doesn’t reflect well on our village. Following requests from several residents who asked if we could help improve this situation we decided to make repainting the village signposts one of our projects this year.
The cost of refurbishing all seven signposts was too high for Clanfield Online alone but following a successful application for a £1,200 grant from Clanfield Parish Council and using our own funds we can arrange to pay for three of the Heritage Signposts to be repainted. We are also delighted to tell you that Hampshire County Council Highways Department, who are overseeing this work, have made a start on repainting the remaining four posts funded by their own HCC budget.
Chris de Mellow, chairman of Clanfield Online commented “I would like to thank Clanfield Parish Council and HCC Highways for their assistance in this project to make our village more attractive. Clanfield Online funds originate from business members who pay a modest sum each year to belong to the website and we are committed to using this money for the benefit of the village.”
Where are the signposts to be found?
