Tree Planting in South Lane Meadow
Clanfield Online is pleased to announce that 5 trees, that will give vibrant autumn colour, have been planted in South Lane Meadow as a thank you gift to the South Lane Meadow Trust for hosting the Clanfield Challenge 2016.
The Trustees of this popular open space in the village offered to help the Challenge committee when they were looking for a large venue for their all ages and ability run. Over 500 entrants from tiny tots to seasoned runners were cheered over the finish line in the Meadow, with friends, family and visitors all enjoying the party atmosphere and variety of stalls run by local businesses and groups.
Clanfield Online who were delighted to give financial and volunteer support to the Clanfield Challenge were eager to agree to the trustees’ request for a small copse of trees to be planted. The trees were supplied and planted by Derek Giles of Rumsey Nursery and securely fenced by Simon Hills of Country Fencing – both local businesses in Clanfield. Chris de Mellow, chairman of Clanfield Online met with Stephen d’Este Hoare, chairman of the South Lane Meadow Trust, to plant the first tree on Wednesday 23 November.
What species of trees were planted? Two red maples, a field maple, a small leaf-lime and a liquidambar have been planted with plenty of compost and mulch before being protected by the study fence. They should provide colour and a home for wildlife for many years to come.
Next year’s Clanfield Challenge will take place again on Sunday 14 May 2017 and registration is now open. The places are limited to 700 runners so don’t delay – register today! https://www.clanfieldchallenge.co.uk/1/home
