Our AGM with a touch of Mirchi Spice
The Mirchi Indian Restaurant in South Lane Clanfield was packed out last Wednesday evening for Clanfield Online’s Annual General Meeting. AGM’s can be fairly dry and serious meetings but this get-together was full of fun, laughter and excellent food. Nearly forty people turned out to represent the 58 community and business groups in the area. Each member had their turn in the ‘spotlight’ talking about their business or organisation, celebrating successes and sharing the challenges of working in and serving the local community. They all agreed that their membership of Clanfield Online has proved extremely useful and was not an opportunity to be missed by any local business or group.
Chairman, Chris de Mellow welcomed the company “This is the second Clanfield Online AGM and I can report that after a successful first year we have again increased our membership and the numbers of people using the website, with growth looking set to continue.” Chris then went on to describe some of the community projects the website sponsored in 2015 such as two local flowerbeds and support for local groups. He finished his speech with the plans for 2016. “This year Clanfield Online is proud to announce it will be sponsoring the Clanfield Challenge 2016 on Sunday 22 May. We are working alongside the Clanfield Joggers to make this a memorable event” http://www.clanfieldonline.com/14/808/the-clanfield-challenge
Ken Finlay of Clanfield Joggers addressed the meeting and described how the plans for the Clanfield Challenge were progressing; namely a 1 km (children’s) race; plus 5km & 12km races in our beautiful Hampshire countryside. Several members present offered their help at this point. Ken stated “Denmead, Hambledon and Petersfield and other areas have their own races so we felt it was time that Clanfield had the opportunity to organise a similar event. There will be opportunities to raise money for good causes so please visit the website and join in on the day.”
At the end of the meeting it was time to enjoy the delicious range of food cooked by Shubho and his team at the Mirchi. http://www.clanfieldonline.com/64/574/mirchi-indian-restaurant-takeaway Many website members had not met before so took this opportunity to network, chat and find out more about the local business and community organisations. Everyone seemed to have such a good time that perhaps we should hold annual general meetings more often!
