Convincing win for Clanfield

Clanfield maintained third place in the table with another convincing win over the Portsmouth Academic on Sunday.

Batting first, Clanfield made a bad start when Oscar Windebank was run out in the first over. However, Mark Turnbull and Haider Khan set about rebuilding the innings and both retired having reached 25.  Alex Andrews continued the good scoring and also retired having hit 3 sixes in 4 balls. A flurry of wickets came as Clanfield tried to increase the run rate before Haider and Alex completed the innings at 131 for 4.

The Academics started well but a run out in the 3rd over removed opener Das. Good economical bowling saw wickets falling regularly with Haider taking 2 for 18 and Mark 1 for 15 from their 3 overs. Although Academics Captain Manning batted sensibly towards the end, they finished well short on 80 for 4 giving Clanfield a win by 51 runs.

Clanfield's last match will now be played at the same time as second placed Sarisbury for the final promotion place. Whatever the outcome, this has been a tremendous first venture into indoor cricket for the villagers and congratulations should go to all who have played.
