Clanfield Cricket Club Summer Reports
Clanfield had another mixed week with a defeat and a victory.
On Sunday 5th, they made the long trip around Southampton to play a strong Fawley side. After good Clanfield wins in recent seasons, the home team were obviously determined that it wouldn't happen again as they posted an imposing 205 for 3 from their 35 overs. All the bowlers suffered and only Bob Wheeler, Matt Bradley and new member Chris Tait took a wicket each.
In reply, Clanfield made a reasonable start putting on 46 for the first wicket. However a collapse from 46-0 to 61-5 left them up against it and they lost regular wickets to finish on 127 all out. Chris Wheeler (22) and Chris Tait (21) were the top scorers.
Conversely, on Wednesday 8th, Clanfield gained a good win at picturesque East Meon where they have struggled over recent years. Batting first, they scored steadily through their innings to make 124 for 6. Alex Andrews and Matt Bradley both retired not out, having made the mandatory 25, while Ben Cox made a useful 20 from 14 balls at the end (including a first ever 6!)
Oscar Windebank (2-9) and Ben Cox (3-15) then had East Meon in trouble with the ball, as they were reduced to 19 for 6. Bob Wheeler also took 4 for 35 as the home team got close but they were all out for 111 despite James Atkinson's big hitting 44 from only 19 balls.
All in all a good week when results from recent years were reversed.
Sadly, today's game (Sunday 12th) against visiting touring team Temple Sheen Eccentrics was cancelled.
