Clanfield Cricket Club Summer Reports
After losing last Sunday's (19th June) game to the weather, Clanfield continued their recent good form with wins against Wallington and DACD.
On Wednesday 23rd, Clanfield played against Wallington at the picturesque Bath Lane next to Fareham Creek. After losing the toss and bowling first, the visitors took an important early wicket when opener Briggs was bowled. Some big hitting by Bellamy saw him retire but regular wickets fell at the other end leaving Wallington on 95-7 from their 18 overs. Pick of the bowlers were Dave Scott-Angell with 3-19, and Ben Cox taking 2-13.
Clanfield's innings followed a similar path with opener Alex Andrews also retiring but wickets falling at the other end to leave Clanfield struggling on 65-6. However, a fine knock by Chris Tait who scored 24 not out saw them home to 96-6.
On Sunday 26th, Clanfield were back at South Lane Meadow to take on DACD. This game has a local derby feel with a few players who have played for both teams along with some father / son combinations across the two clubs.
Batting first, Clanfield scored steadily with several batsman getting started without making a big score. Chris Wheeler (26), Haider Khan (27), Mark Turnbull (36 n.o.) and Matt Bradley (22) were the main contributors to the teams 156-7 from 35 overs.
After 'dangerman' Meryddyd Hughes was caught by Russ Stuart in the slips, DACD never got to grips with the run chase. They lost regular wickets and were finally all out as the weather closed in for 53. Best bowlers were Russ Stuart with a fantastic 4 for 7 from 7 overs, with Matt Bradley taking 2-8 and Bob Wheeler 2-23.
Two fine wins wrapped up just before wet weather rolled in!
