Half term week at Butser Ancient Farm has a Roman theme to it this year. There will be a chance to see the new chimney in the kitchen alight, our working hypocaust (the Roman underfloor heating) and be inspired by our life size Lego mosaic floor which is based on the original floor discovered in this Sparsholt Villa (which is now based on the top floor at the Winchester City Museum).

We will have Roman activities for children to do each day, including design your own mosaic, play Roman games with your family, hopscotch, artefact illustration and interior design using the new model of the Roman Villa in the shop - design where you would have put the Roman furniture.

The 2016 #BuildButser competition also starts at half term, where we hope that children will be inspired by Butser Ancient Farm and take up the challenge to create part of the farm out of Lego or using Minecraft. The winner will receive a family pass to the farm.

There will also be specialist demonstrations daily on subjects such as weapons, clothing and food.

Some of the activities confirmed are:

Monday morning there will be Iron Age Spinning & Dyeing

Wednesday Roman Cooking

Traditional hedge-laying take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

Opening times for February half term.  Monday 15 - Thursday 18 February. 10am – 4pm.

NB Please note we are closed on Friday 19th February.

Friday 19th Feb – Closed due to resurfacing of entrance.  Due to demand from a coach driver's survey we are looking forward to the resurfacing of our driveway. Unfortunately this does mean that we have to close for the day, where as we had previously advertised as being open for the full week. Sorry for any inconvenience caused, but we hope you will all agree it will be worth it!
